The Newton Tigers managed to pick up one win in their annual holiday tournament last week.
The Tigers beat West Lowndes 65-54 on Saturday after losing 79-65 to Laurel on Friday. The Lady Tigers lost both contests, falling 54-47 to West Lowndes and 50-26 to Bay Springs.
Newton was scheduled to return to action on Tuesday as they travel to Lake to open Division 6-2A play. On Friday, Newton will host Philadelphia in another big 6-2A contest

The Lady Panthers had a big second half as they came from behind to beat the Lady Tigers on Saturday.
Newton led for most of the first half as they jumped out to a 15-8 advantage in the first and outscored West Lowndes 16-11 in the second to lead 31-19 at the half. But West Lowndes came roaring back in the second half and outscored Newton 16-5 in the third as the Lady Tigers held a 36-35 lead going into the fourth. West Lowndes finished off the game by outscoring Newton 19-11 in the fourth to take the win.
Ja’Leah Hickmon led Newton with 14 points while Cornesha Jones had 11 points. Zia Shields and Adora McDaniel each had eight points.

The Tigers finished strong in each half and took an 11-point win over the Panthers on Saturday night.
West led 12-10 at the end of the first before Newton outscored the Panthers 21-12 to lead 31-24 at the half. Newton outscored West 14-12 in the third and 20-18 in the fourth to take the win.
Kedrick Osby led Newton with 18 points while Kezzarian Wash and Rayvion Nettles each had eight points apiece.
Bay Springs girls 50,

The Lady Tigers fell behind in the first half as the Lady Bulldogs took a 24-point win.
Bay Springs led 8-7 at the end of the first and then outscored Newton 18-3 in the second to lead 26-10 at the half. The Lady Bulldogs continued to extend its lead in the second half, outscoring Newton 16-12 in the third and 8-4 in the fourth.
Zia Shields led Newton with 14 points.
Laurel boys 79, Newton 65
The Tornadoes had a big first half as they took a 14-point win over the Tigers on Friday.
Laurel jumped out to an 18-10 lead and outscored Newton 27-19 in the second to lead 45-29 at the half. Laurel took the third period 19-16 while Newton took the fourth 20-15 for the final margin.
Kedrick Osby led Newton with 19 points while Justin Thompson had 11 points. Kezzarian Wash had nine points while Cahden Thompson and Rayvion Nettles each had eight points apiece.
