The Newton County Lady Cougars racked up five more wins last week, including a pair of doubleheaders sweeps of Northwest Rankin and Raleigh.
Newton County (19-2) returned to action with Enterprise on Monday and SE Lauderdale on Tuesday.
County 11, NW Rankin 7
The Lady Cougars overcame an early deficit and scored nine runs in the last two innings to take a four-run win over Northwest Rankin in the first game of the doubleheader on Monday.
Katelyn Gipson led the way, going 3-for-4 with two home runs and a double, including a grand slam, three runs scored and six RBIs. Lizzy Hollingsworth also had a big game, going 2-for-4 with two home runs, two runs scored and four RBIs. Shelby Anderson was 3-for-4 and scored three times while Brittany Thomas, Landree Amis and Karlye Tolbird were each 2-for-4.
County 10, NW Rankin 8
Newton County needed extra innings to beat Northwest Rankin in the second game of a doubleheader on Monday.
Shelby Anderson was 4-for-5 with a double, home run and three runs scored. Lorren Ivey was 4-for-4 in the contest and had two RBIs. Katelyn Gipson was 2-for-3 with a double, home run, two walks, three runs scored and two RBIs. Brittany Thomas was also 2-for-4 with a double, home run, three runs scored and two RBIs. Lizzy Hollingsworth was 3-for-3 with two RBIs while Natalie Lampton was 2-for-3 and scored a run.
Natalie Lampton was the winning pitcher in both games of the doubleheader.
County 11, Raleigh 0
The Lady Cougars scored all of their runs in the first two innings to take a run-rule victory over Raleigh in the first game of the doubleheader.
Lizzy Hollingsworth was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Brittany Thomas was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored. Landree Amis was 2-for-3 with two RBIs while Loren Ivey was 2-for-3. Karlye Tolbird, Lanie Phillips and Haley McDowell each had singles and RBIs.
Natalie Lampton pitched three innings and gave up four hits while Katelyn Gipson pitched the final two and gave up one hit.
County 9, Raleigh 0
The Lady Cougars only gave up two hits as they blanked Raleigh in the second game of the doubleheader.
Katelyn Gipson was 2-for-3 with a double, home run, two runs scored and four RBIs. Shelby Anderson was 3-for-3 with two doubles and three runs scored. Lizzy Hollingsworth, Lorren Ivey and Karlye Tolbird were each 2-for-3.
Natalie Lampton pitched six innings and gave up two hits while Gipson pitched one hitless inning.
County 15, Quitman 0
The Lady Cougars had little trouble with visiting Quitman on Thursday night in a three-inning, run-rule victory.
Brittany Thomas was 2-for-2 with a home runs and three runs scored. Karlye Tolbird was 2-for-2 while Lanie Phillips was 2-for-3. Katelyn Gipson only had one hit but made it count with a grand slam. Lorren Ivey and Lizzy Hollingsworth scored twice and drove in two runs while Landree Amis, Haley McDowell and Natalie Lampton each had RBI hits.
