After a season-opening loss to Neshoba Central, Newton County has reeled off six straight wins, including five straight last week.
The Lady Cougars scored 58 runs last week, sweeping Quitman 15-0 and 16-0 in Division 5-4A play. The Lady Cougars traveled to the coast and won three in the West Harrison Tournament, beating Gulf Shores 15-3, Pearl River Central 14-4 and finishing up with an 8-4 win over Oak Grove.
Newton County (6-1) will return to action on Thursday as they play two games and two on Friday at the Enterprise Tournament.
County 16, Quitman 0
County had 11 hits in the contest as Lorren Ivey was 2-for-2 with a triple and two RBIs. Brittany Thomas was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs while Shelby Anderson was 2-for-2 with a double. Landree Amis tripled to score and drive in a run while Lanie Phillips had two RBIs. Lizzy Hollingsworth walked three times and scored all three while Brelie Phillips also scored three runs.
Shelby Anderson allowed just one baserunner on a walk while striking out seven.
County 15, Quitman 0
Newton County had 11 hits in the contest, led by Lorren Ivey who was 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Shelby Anderson was 2-for-4 with three RBIs while Katelyn Gibson was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Lizzy Hollingsworth had a triple, scored twice and drove in two runs. Alex Weir, Lanie Phillips and Karlye Tolbird each scored two runs apiece.
Ivey pitched all three innings without giving up a hit, striking out six in just 35 pitches.
County 15, Gulf Shores 3
The Lady Cougars used a pair of big innings to take a 12-run win over Gulf Shores on Friday at the West Harrison Tournament.
Newton County had 10 hits with four doubles. Shelby Anderson was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs while Landree Amis was 2-for-2 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. Brittany Thomas and Lizzy Hollingsworth each singled and drove in two runs while Lanie Phillips had a double and drove in three runs. Katelyn Gipson was 2-for-4 with double while Lorren Ivey walked two and scored twice.
Brittany Thomas pitched all four innings, giving up three runs, only one earned on three hits and four walks while striking out four.
County 14, PR Central 4
Shelby Anderson was 2-for-3 with a double, home run and two runs scored while Landree Amis was 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Lizzy Hollingsworth was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored while Brittany Thomas was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Katelyn Gipson scored three runs and had two RBIs while Lorren Ivey doubled and drove in two runs. Lanie Phillips had a single and drove in two runs while Casey Dube also had a double.
Shelby Anderson pitched three innings with no hits and no walks while striking out six. Mandarie Leach pitched the final two innings and gave up four unearned runs on one hit with two strikeouts.
County 8, Oak Grove 4
Lizzy Hollingsworth was 3-for-4 with three doubles and two RBIs. Brittany Thomas was 2-for-4 with two doubles while Shelby Anderson was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored. Landree Amis had a double and scored twice while Katelyn Gipson doubled and scored two runs.
Lorren Ivey pitched 2 2/3 innings, giving up three runs on five hits whiles striking out three.
Thomas pitched the next 3 1/3 innings and gave up one run on five hits while striking out two. Shelby Anderson pitched the last inning and struck out two on just nine pitches.
