Newton County won a pair of one-point matches this past week as they won two out of three matches.
After a 6-1 loss to Jackson Academy on Tuesday, Newton County beat Jackson Prep and St. Andrew’s 4-3 on Thursday.
Newton County improves to 4-7 on the season and will play at Northwest Rankin on Monday and host Northeast Jones on Tuesday. On Thursday, Newton County will travel to Mississippi College and play Madison Central and Clinton.
Jackson Academy 6, County 1
Newton County managed only one point against MAIS power Jackson Academy.
Joel Hill and Kayla Baucum scored the team’s only point in mixed doubles as they took a 6-2, 5-7, 10-5 win in a third-set tiebreaker.
In singles, County struggled as Parker Chaney lost 6-0 on the boys side and Kamryn Rodrigues lost 6-1, 6-2 on the girls side.
In boys doubles, Dylan Barnett and Lee Hill lost 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 in a third-set tiebreaker at the No. 1 spot while Peyton Chaney and Daylon Nance lost 4-6, 6-1, 10-8 in a third-set tiebreaker. In girls doubles, Josie Hurst and Ali Grace Walker lost 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 1 spot while Kailee Brown and Lauren Addy lost 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot.

Newton County won all four doubles points to take a one-point win over Jackson Prep on Thursday.
On the boys side, Newton County dominated in doubles as Dylan Barnett and Lee Hill won 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 1 spot. At the No. 2 spot, Peyton Chaney and Daylon Nance won 6-3, 6-2. On the boys side, Dylan Barnett and Lee Hill took a 7-5, 6-2 win at the No. 1 spot while Peyton Chaney and Daylon Barnett fell at the No. 2 spot, losing 6-4, 6-7(3) and 14-12 in a third-set tiebreaker.
Joel Hill and Kayla Baucum took the game-winning point at mixed doubles, winning 6-1, 6-0.
