The Newton County Lady Cougars continued to bash the softball last week as they banged out 42 hits and nine home runs in winning three contests.
The Lady Cougars blanked Northeast Lauderdale 15-0 on Thursday and then took a pair of wins at the Enterprise Tournament on Saturday, beating Wayne County 7-1 and Enterprise 16-5.
Newton County and Forest played two innings on Tuesday before the game was called due to rain. It will be finished when Newton County travels to Forest.
Newton County has just one game scheduled this week as they will travel to Morton on Thursday.
County 15, NE Lauderdale 0
The Lady Cougars had 12 hits in the contest and hit three home runs. Jada McDougle was 3-for-3 and scored three runs while Brittany Thomas was also 3-for-3 with three runs scored and a home run. Katelyn Gipson had only one hit but it was a grand slam in the first inning.
Lorren Ivey was 2-for-3 while Jessie Thaggard was 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored. Shelby Anderson had Newton County’s other home run and also scored two runs while Karlye Tolbird had three RBIs.
Katelyn Gipson picked up the win, needing only 34 pitches to go three innings while giving up two hits in the contest.
County 7, Wayne County 1
The Lady Cougars had 13 hits in the contest as five Lady Cougars had multiple hits. Brittany Thomas and Katelyn Gipson were each 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs while Thomas had a double and Gipson had a home run. Lorren Ivey and Landree Amis were each 2-for-4 while Lanie Phillips was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Shelby Anderson also had two walks in the contest.
Gipson again got the win on the mound as she scattered three hits over seven innings.
County 16, Enterprise 5
Newton County had 17 hits in the contest and had five home runs in the contest. Katelyn Gipson continued her hot hitting as she was 3-for-3 with two home runs, including a grand slam as she scored three times and drove in five runs. Jada McDougle was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs as she had two doubles and a home run. Brittany Thomas was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBIs and a home run.
Lanie Phillips was also 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs while Jessie Thaggard was 2-for-3 and Karlye Tolbird was 2-for-4 with a double. Lorren Ivey also had a home run and two RBIs.
