Both Newton County teams split a pair of games last week, both beating Morton in the season opener before falling to Leake County on Thursday night.
Newton County will return to action this week as they travel to Leake Central on Tuesday and host Union on Friday night.
Leake County boys 100,
Newton County 47
The Gators more than doubled up Newton County last week.
Leake led 21-11 at the end of the first and then outscored Newton County 33-9 to lead 54-20 at the half. Leake continued to add to the lead as they outscored County 21-11 in the third and 25-16 in the fourth.
Josiah Cleveland led County with 13 points while Jared Thames had 12 points. Deon Towner added seven and Chris Thomas had six points.
County boys 59, Morton 47
The Cougars picked up their first win of he season as the they beat Morton by 12.
County led 11-10 at the end of the first and then outscored the Panthers 16-9 to lead 27-19 at the half. Morton cut into the lead in the third, outscoring County 18-15 to make the score 42-37 at the end of the third. County then outscored Morton 17-10 in the fourth to take the win.
Chris Thomas led Newton County with 15 points while Lamar Morgan had 14 points. Jamal Croft had 10 points while Josiah Cleveland had eight and Deon Towner added six.
County girls 43, Morton 37
The Lady Cougars pulled away in the second half to take a six-point win over Morton for the first win of the season.
With the score tied at 20 at the half, County outscored Morton 12-8 in the third and 11-9 in the fourth for the win.
Jayelen Mack led County with 16 points while Nahriah Brown had 11 points and Remini Nickey added 10 points.
Leake County 79
Newton County 29
The Lady Gators outscored Newton County in every period to take the win.
Leake led 18-7 at the end of the first and then outscored Newton County 15-9 in the second to lead 33-16 at the half. Leake then pulled away in the third as they outscored Newton County 22-4 to take a 55-20 lead.
Keasja Wansley led County with eight points while Alyssa McMillan and Reminin Nickey each had five points apiece.
