The Newton County Lady Cougars picked up one win last week in a pair of contests.
The Lady Cougars beat Enterprise 3-2 in a low-scoring affair and they tied West Harrison in a time-limit contest. Both games were played on Saturday at the Clarkdale Tournament.
Newton County, now 8-4-1, will host Choctaw Central on Monday and will return the trip on Thursday. Newton County will travel to the South Jones Tournament on Saturday for a pair of games.
County 5, West Harrison 5
Newton County ended up in a tie with Class 5A West Harrison in a time-limit contest on Saturday at the Clarkdale Tournament.
West Harrison struck first as they scored four runs in the first inning and added another run in the fourth. Newton County answered back with four runs in the second inning and tied the game up with a run in the fifth.
Newton County had seven hits in the contest as Karlye Tolbird was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs. Jessi Thaggard and Landree Amis each had singles and scored runs while Katelyn Gipson had a single and scored twice while she was also hit by pitches twice. Jada McDougle and Lorren Ivey had County’s other hits.
Brittany Thomas pitched all five innings and gave up five runs on four hits. She walked two and struck out one.
County 3, Enterprise 2
Newton County got a solid pitching performance from Shelby Anderson to take a one-run win over Enterprise on Saturday.
Newton County struck first with a run in the second and Enterprise answered with one in the top of the third. The Lady Cougars came back with two runs in the bottom of the third to go up 3-1. Enterprise added one in the top of the fourth but County held on to win in six innings.
Newton County was 2-for-3 and scored a run while Katelyn Gipson added a solo home run. Anderson had a single and scored a run while Brittany Thomas also had an RBI single. Landree Amis and Alex Weir each had singles for the Lady Cougars.
Anderson pitched all five innings and gave up two runs on five hits while striking out six to pick up the win.
