The Lake Lady Hornets added another win to its total with an 11-point win over Mize on Friday night.
The Hornets dropped a tough 40-36 decision to the Bulldogs on Friday as well.
Lake opened Division 4-2A play on Tuesday when they travel to Newton. Lake will then host the Scott County Tournament on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
The Lake girls are the No. 3 seed in the tournament and will play Sebastopol on Friday at 7 p.m. while the Lake boys are the No. 2 seed and will play Scott Central at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. The girls championship is set for 6 p.m. on Saturday while the boys is set for 7:30 p.m. in the single-elimination tournament.
Lake girls 42, Mize 31
The Lady Hornets started slow but used a big second and third periods as they took an 11-point win over the Lady Bulldogs.
Mize jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first period before Lake got going in the second period by outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 21-8 to lead 23-18 at the half. The Lady Hornets continued to expand the lead in the third as they outscored the Lady Bulldogs 18-7 to lead 41-25 at the end of the fourth.
Laurel Breland led the Lady Hornets with 15 points, five steals and four rebounds. Darnesia Jones had eight rebounds and 10 points while Kiana Odom had eight points and six rebounds.
Mize boys 40, Lake 36
In a back and forth game, the Bulldogs pulled away in the fourth period to take a four-point win over the Hornets.
After each team scored 10 points in the first period, Lake outscored Mize 8-4 in the second to lead 18-14 at the half. Mize pulled within one in the third period, outscoring Lake 10-7 to cut the lead to 25-24 heading into the fourth. Mize then took the fourth period 16-11 to take the win.
Danarrious Hughes led Lake with 10 points and three steals. Angelo Sowell had eight points while Tim Norris had six rebounds.
