First-year basketball coach Maurice Bowie seems to have both Lake programs headed in the right direction.
Both teams added another win last week as the Lady Hornets beat Pisgah 54-46 while the Hornets beat Enterprise 52-41.
Lake returned to action, as they hosted Ethel on Tuesday and will host Mize on Thursday. They will end the week at Morton on Friday.
Lake boys 52, Enterprise 41
The Hornets overcame an early deficit and closed out the Bulldogs in the fourth period to take an 11-point win on Tuesday.
Enterprise led 11-6 at the end of the first but Lake responded by outscoring the Bulldogs 19-9 in the second to led 25-20 at the half. Enterprise cut into the deficit in the third, outscoring Lake 16-13 to cut lead to 38-36. But Lake finished by outscoring Enterprise 14-5 to take the win.
Danarrious Hughes led Lake with 18 points while J’Lann Broadfoot had 10 points. Tahi Lay had seven points and Zywon Ledbetter added five points.
Enterprise girls 46, Lake 35
The Lady Bulldogs grabbed an 11-point lead in the first period and was able to use that margin to take the win.
Enterprise outscored Lake 15-4 in the first period and led 28-13 at the half. After Enterprise outscored Lake 9-7 in the third, the Lady Hornets closed the gap by outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 15-9 in the fourth for the final margin.
Laurel Breland led Lake with 12 points while D’Nara Barton had eight points and Ameria Ervin added six points.
Pisgah boys 72, Lake 56
The Dragons got off to fast starts in both halves and took a 16-point win over the Hornets on Friday.
Pisgah led 19-9 at the end of the first but Lake outscored the Dragons 22-16 in the second cut the lead to 35-31. Pisgah then outscored Lake 19-9 in the third and 18-6 in the fourth to take the win.
Angelo Sewell and Zywon Ledbetter each scored 16 points apiece.
Lake girls 54, Pisgah 46
After falling behind in the first period, Lake outscored Pisgah in each of the next three to take an eight-point win.
Pisgah led 9-6 at the end of the first before Lake outscored the Lady Dragons 15-9 to go up 21-18 at the half. Lake then outscored Pisgah 15-14 in the third and 18-14 in the fourth to take the win.
D’Nara Barton led Lake with 13 points while Ameria Ervin had 12 points. Monica Pinkston had eight points and Laurel Breland scored five.
