After making the Class 2A finals last year, the Lake Lady Hornets have one of the area’s toughest schedules.
That showed this past week as Lake dropped four straight contests, losing 11-0 to Houston and 4-0 to Corinth on Friday. On Saturday, they dropped a pair of games as they fell 5-3 to Madison Central and 10-4 to Vancleave.
Lake will try to get back to snap its losing streak this week when the Lady Hornets returned to action on Tuesday, as they traveled to Scott Central to open Division 4-2A play. They will host the Lady Rebels on Thursday and will go to the South Jones Tournament on Saturday.
Vancleave 9, Lake 4
The Lady Bulldogs scored all of their runs in the first three innings to take a five-run win over the Lady Hornets on Saturday.
Lake scored three runs in the top of the first inning before Vancleave answered with two runs in the first, and four in the second and third innings. Lake scored one more run in the fourth for the final margin.
Lake had nine hits in the contest, led by Taylor Duncan who was 3-for-4 with a double. Katlyn Lott was 2-for-3 and scored a run. Landry LeBlanc also singled, scored a run a run and drove in a run.
Brantlee McGee got the start and pitched the first 1 2/3 innings and gave up six runs, only one earned, on six hits and one walk. Taylor Duncan pitched the next 3 2/3 innings and gave up four runs on three hits and two walks while striking out three. Kate Gladney got the last two outs on five pitches.
Madison Central 5, Lake 3
The Lady Hornets fell behind early and never led, as they dropped a two-run loss to Class 6A Madison Central.
Lake had nine hits in the contest as Laurel Breland and Taylor Duncan each went 2-for-4 while Josie Gibbs was 2-for-3.
Marcie McMillian got the start for Lake and pitched five innings, giving up four runs on nine hits and a walk. Taylor Duncan pitched the final two innings and gave up one run on one hit and struck out three.
Corinth 4, Lake 0
The Lady Hornets managed only one hit in a shutout loss to the Lady Warriors on Friday.
Corinth scored two runs in the third and fourth.
Taylor Duncan had Lake’s only hit.
Kate Gladney pitched all five innings for Lake and gave up six runs on four hits and four walks while striking out six.
Houston 11, Lake 0
The Lady Hilltoppers used a pair of five-run innings and shut out the Lady Hornets in 4 1/2 innings.
Lake only had three hits as Taylor Duncan, Alana Edmonds and Kaytie Hillman each had singles.
Taylor Duncan started on the mound for Lake and pitched all five innings, giving up 11 runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four. On three of the runs were earned.
