The Newton County Academy tennis team picked up a non-division win last week as they beat Union 6-1.
The Yellowjackets followed that up with a 6-1 win over Leake Central and dropped a 6-1 decision to traditional power Madison St. Joseph.
NCA returns to action this week with two matches. The Generals will host Manchester on Tuesday at 4 p.m. and will host Sylva Bay on Thursday at 4 p.m. Both matches are set for East Central.
Union was scheduled to travel to Northeast Lauderdale on Monday and will play at Forest on Thursday.
NCA 6, Union 1
The Generals took a five-point win over the Yellowjackets on Monday.
In singles, NCA took both points as Tori Evans beat Bella Miley 6-0, 6-4 on the girl’s side while Micah Douglas beat Michael Hurley 6-1, 6-0 on the boy’s side.
In girls’ doubles, NCA took both points as Marla Graham and Anna Moore beat Haley McKinnion and Logan McGraw 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot while Belle and Lilly Hollingsworth beat Tyler Athas and Destiny Edwards 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot.
In boys’ doubles, NCA also took both points as Luke Alexander and Ethan McDill beat Sage Gunn and Cross Franklin 6-3, 7-5 at the No. 1 spot while Eli Finnegan and Jordan Mason beat Francelle Parcia and Seth Sessums 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 2 spots.
Union’s only point came from mixed doubles as E.J. Campbell and Meshon Graham beat Anna Turner and Tripp Blasingame 6-2, 3-6, 11-9 in a third-set tiebreaker.
Union 6, Leake Central 1
The Yellowjackets picked up a solid win as they dominated Leake Central.
In singles, Union grabbed both points as Sage Gunn won 6-0, 6-4 on the boy’s side while Bella Miley won 6-3, 6-4 on the girl's side.
In mixed doubles, Meghan Graham and E.J. Campbell won 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles action, Union won No. 1 girls doubles by forfeit while Tyler Athas and Destiney Edwards won 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 2 girls spot. In boys’ doubles, Cross Franklin and Michael Hurley lost 6-1, 6-2 for Leake Central’s only points. The No. 2 boys’ doubles team won by forfeit.
Madison St. Joseph 6, Union 1
The Yellowjackets struggled with traditional power Madison St. Joseph last week.
In singles, Sage Gunn lost 6-0, 6-1 on the boy’s side while Bella Miley lost 4-6, 6-2, 10-2 on the girl’s side.
In mixed doubles, Meghan Graham and E.J. Campbell lost 6-2, 6-1.
In girls’ doubles, Haylee McKinnon and Logan McGraw lost 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot while Destiny Edwards and Haley Townsend lost 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot.
In boys’ doubles, Cross Franklin and Michael Hurley lost 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot while Seth Sessums and Francelle Parija grabbed Union’s only point with a 7-5, 6-4 win at the No. 2 spot.
