Newton County Academy competed for the first time in the MAIS Class AA/AAA Cheer & Tumbling competition on Wednesday, Oct. 17, and the NCA General Cheerleaders won their first State Championship.
Squad members Ashley Barrett, Gracie Humphries, Abby Compton, Chloe Rigdon, Lilly Hollingsworth, Belle Hollingsworth, Bella Collins, Brooklyn Ellis, Riley Ursy, Belli Hollingsworth, Kiera Morgan and Madison Jay. Cheer Coach is Ashley Bunyard and the choreographer is Tyler Carr with Cheer MS.
In addition to the team title, NCA Senior Chloe Rigdon competed in the All Star competition where she came in first place bringing home an individual State Championship for NCA.
“The squad worked really hard for this season,” Bunyard said. “We didn’t know that we had won it after we did our routine, but we knew we really hit it. It’s amazing that we were able to do this in our first try at state competition. The girls did a great job all year, and it was exciting to win it in our firs time.”
