ECCC golf team opens season with 4th place finish
The East Central Community College golf team improved 13 shots and three spots in the standings over the final day to finish tied for fourth in MACJC Conference Event No. 1 held Sept. 23-24 at Eagle Ridge Golf Course in Raymond.
It was the opening golf event of the 2017-18 season for Mississippi community colleges.
As a team, ECCC shot a 19-over par 595 over the two-day, 36-hole tournament. Mississippi Gulf Coast won the event with an 11-under par 565.
Sophomore David Barry out of West Jones in Laurel led the Warriors with a two-over par 146 to tie for 10th overall. He was followed by sophomore Bailey Threlkeld of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and freshman Jacob Hamner of Vanderbilt Catholic in Houma, La., who both shot 147 and tied for 14th. Freshman Trent Hundley from Choctaw Central shot 156 and finished 39th and freshman Nathan Davis from Newton County shot 159 and finished 44th.
East Central returns to action Sept. 30-Oct. 1 at MACJC Conference Event No. 2 at Wolf Hollow Golf Course in Wesson.
ECCC men get back in win column at Jones County
East Central Community College used goals six minutes apart but in different periods of the match to defeat Jones County Junior College 2-0 on the road in Ellisville Friday, Sept. 22.
A 44th minute first half goal by sophomore Cory Furlow of Clinton and a 50th minute second half goal by sophomore Tanner Lindsey of Northwest Rankin was all the scoring ECCC would need in the shutout win.
Dylan Shoemaker out of Forest got the win in goal.
East Central’s record improves to 4-4-1. Jones County falls to 3-5-1.
The Warriors and Lady Warriors return home to host Meridian Community College on Friday, Sept. 29, at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. in Bailey Stadium in Decatur.
