Lake and Union tied up on the softball field last week in a two-game series with each team taking a win.
Lake won the first game on Tuesday, winning 15-7 while Union needed an extra inning to beat the Lady Hornets 5-4 on Thursday.
Union improves to 10-9 on the year and will travel to Northeast Lauderdale on Tuesday.
Lake, now 11-12, must play at Philadelphia on Monday in their regular-season finale.
Heading into Monday’s game, Lake and Union both have two losses while Philadelphia has one loss. If Philadelphia wins Monday’s game, the Lady Tornadoes will be first in the division with Union second and Lake third. If Lake wins, all three teams will have two losses apiece and be in a three-way tie for first.
Union 5, Lake 4
The Lady Jackets scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to take a walk-off win over the Lady Hornets on Thursday.
The game was scoreless for four innings as Lake scored single runs in the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth. Union scored three in the fifth and two in the eighth to take the win. Union tied the score up in the eighth when DaShayla Jackson scored on a squeeze bunt by Ansley Rigby. Kenley Pullin then singled to right field to score Kaylee Holley to give Union the win.
Union had just three hits as Pullin was 2-for-4 on the day while Anna Grace Blount singled and drove in two runs. Jordan Turner walked twice and scored a run. Debbie Hunter and Kayleigh Vance also scored runs.
Landry LeBlanc was 2-for-4 with a double to lead the Lady Hornets at the plate. Laurel Breland and Alana Edmonds each had singles and drove in one run apiece.
Britli Cleveland pitched all eight innings for Union and gave up three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four.
Lake 15, Union 7
The Lady Hornets built an 8-0 lead and held that advantage to take an eight-run win over the Lady Jackets on Tuesday.
Lake scored three runs in the first and five in the second to go up 8-0. Union score two in the third and each tam scored four in the fourth as Lake led 12-6. Lake added three in the sixth while Union scored one in the sixth.
Lake outhit Union 21-4 on the contest.
Lake was led by Laurel Breland who was 5-for-5 at the plate with a double, triple, three runs scored and five RBIs. Taylor Duncan was 3-for-3 with a triple, home run, three runs scored and two RBIs. Landry LeBlanc was 3-for-5 with two runs scored while Josie Gibbs was 3-for-4 with two RBIS. Kaytie Hillman was 2-for-4 with three runs scored while Alana Edmonds was 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Reagan Clark was 2-for-3 and also had two walks.
DaShayla Jackson was 2-for-4 for Union and had two RBIs. Kenley Pullin doubled and scored a run while Kayleigh Vance singled and scored. Jordan Turner and Debbie Hunter each scored two runs apiece.
Neshoba Central 12, Union 0
The Lady Yellowjackets saw one of the country’s best pitchers and failed to get a hit as the Lady Rockets took a run-rule win on Friday.
Neshoba scored one in the first, five in the third and six in the fourth.
Neshoba’s Aspen Wesley, a Mississippi State signee, was dominant as she struck out 13 of the 16 batters she faced. Wesley was also 2-for-3 at the plate and had three RBIs.
Britli Cleveland pitched all four innings for Union, giving up 12 runs on 11 hits and five walks to the state’s No. 1 ranked team.
