The Union Lady Yellowjackets only got in one game last week and picked up a big Division 4-2A win.
The Lady Jackets rallied from a 7-2 deficit and beat Philadelphia 12-9 on a chilly Tuesday night at Union.
Union will return to play this week as they play in the Enterprise Tournament on Thursday and Friday. On Thursday, Union will play Enterprise at 11 a.m. and Newton County at 1 p.m. On Thursday, Union will play Louisville at 11 a.m. and then Northwest Rankin at 3 p.m.
Union 12, Philadelphia 9
The Lady Yellowjackets scored 10 runs in the last two innings to beat the Lady Tornadoes on Tuesday in the division opener for both teams.
Each team scored two runs in the first inning and Philly scored five runs in the top of the third to take a 7-2 lead. Union bounced back to score six run in the bottom of the fifth to go up 8-7. Union added four more runs in the sixth while Philly scored one in the sixth and seventh for the final margin.
Union had just four hits while Philly committed five errors and issued six walks. DaShayla Jackson led Union as she was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Ann Grace Blount walked twice, singled and score two runs. Dallas Brown singled, drove in a run while scoring twice. Kayleigh Vance and Ansley Rigby each scored two runs for the Lady Jackets.
Britli Cleveland pitched a complete game as she gave up nine runs on six hits and seven walks but struck out 12.
West Lauderdale 5, Union 1
The Lady Yellowjackets struggled at the plate with 14 strikeouts, as they lost to the Lady Knights to open the season.
West scored one in the first, two in the third and fifth innings on nine hits. Union scored its only run in the fifth.
Union had five hits in the game, led by Britli Cleveland was 2-for-2 with one walk. Kayleigh Vance, DaShayla Jackson and Dallas Brown each had singles while Ansley Rigby scored Union’s only run. Jackson had two stolen bases while Brown and Rigby also swiped a base.
Cleveland got the start on the mound and pitched all seven-inning giving up five runs on nine hits and three walks while striking out two.
Ethel 7, Union 3
The Lady Jackets made a late rally, but it fell short as they dropped a four-run loss to the Lady Tigers.
Ethel scored two in the first and fifth with single runs in the second, third and sixth innings. Union scored its three runs in the seventh.
Union had just three hits and struck out 13 times. Anna Grace Blount had a triple and drove in two runs while Ansley Rigby had a double. Kayleigh Vance had a single and scored a run and had one RBI. DaShayla Jackson and Kenley Pullin each scored a run.
Britli Cleveland pitched all seven innings and gave up seven runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out five.
