Union baseball coach Dustin Hamrick has his Yellowjackets right where he wants them.
The Yellowjackets swept two games from Philadelphia, winning 8-2 and 5-1 to stay unbeaten in Division 4-2A play.
The sweep leaving Union unbeaten in 4-2A play and sets up a two-game championship series with Lake this week.
“I’m proud for two more district wins but it’s not complete,” Union coach Dustin Hamrick said. “We’ve been talking about winning a district championship all year so here it is for the taking this week.”
Union moves to 10-6 on the year and will take on Lake in a two-game series with the Division 4-2A championship on the line. Union will play at Lake on Tuesday and host the Hornets on Friday. Union will play Clarkdale on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Union 8, Philadelphia 2
The Yellowjackets got another dominant pitching event from Jaylon Buckley to take a six-run win over the Tornadoes on Monday.
Union outhit Philadelphia 8-1 in the contest as the Tornadoes committed six errors. Kolton Cockerham was 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Peyton Posey had a two-run home run. J.T. Vance tripled and had an RBI while Preston Germany and Gavin Heath each singled a scored two runs.
Buckley was dominant on the mound, pitching 6 1/3 innings and giving up two runs on three hits while striking out 15. J.T. Vance pitched the final 2/3 of an inning and struck out two.
Union 5, Philadelphia 1
The Yellowjackets limited the Tornadoes to three hits and completed the two-game sweep on Friday.
Union outhit Philly 7-3 as J.T. Vance and Henry Thornton were each 2-for-3 with a double and one run scored. Jaylon Buckley singled and drove in two runs while Kolton Cockerham walked twice and had two RBIs. Gavin Heath and Trevor Patchin each had singles.
Patchin was dominant on the mound, pitching all seven innings and giving up one unearned run on three hits while striking out 12.
Neshoba Central 12, Union 5
Jaylon Buckley was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. Kolton Cockerham was 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Trevor Patchin singled and drove in two runs.
Preston Germany pitched the first 2 1/3 innings and gave up seven runs on six hits and three walks while striking out three. Henry Thornton pitched the next 2 2/3 innings and gave up three runs on four hits and three walks while Vance pitched the last inning and gave up two runs on one hit and one walk.
