The Mississippi Senate continued work during the second week of the legislative session by honoring the contributions of former legislators and celebrating the legacies of influential Mississippians.
The Senate paid tribute to former members who have passed away, passing resolutions to commemorate their service and impact. Senate Concurrent Resolution 502 honors the legacy of former Senator and Mississippi Appellate Judge John J. Fraiser, Jr. Senate Concurrent Resolution 503 honors the legacy of former Senator Edwin Pittman who served in three branches of government. Senate Concurrent Resolution 504 honors the legacy of former Senator Charles Pittman, and Senate Concurrent Resolution 506 honors the legacy of former Senator Nickey Browning.
The Senate also passed Senate Concurrent Resolution 508 to honor the legacy of blues musician B.B. King and Civil Rights pioneer Medgar Evers on their 100th birthday celebrations.
As part of Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann’s tradition of inviting students to share their talents at the Capitol, the Oak Grove High School choir performed on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, in the second-floor rotunda.
The Senate met the Wednesday, January 15, 2025, deadline for submitting requests drafting general bills and constitutional amendments. Senators face a Monday, January 20, 2025, deadline for introduction of general bills and constitutional amendments.
