A great summer and fall have paid off for Union’s Lauryn Roebuck, as the senior outfielder received a scholarship to continue her career at Southwest Mississippi Community College.

Roebuck attributed her scholarship offer from how her travel team, MotionX, was able to get her seen by college scouts.

Hickory: Fire consumes about 90 acres

Departments save buildings, burn ban renewed for Newton County

A blaze off of Hickory-Little Rock Road on Sunday afternoon put fire departments in an unusual position.

Instead of trying to put out the fire, the wind combined with the extremely dry soil conditions forced firefighters in a defensive mode.

Police investigate drive-by shooting at Hardee's

The Newton Police Department is investigating an apparent drive-by shooting at Hardee's restaurant on Hwy. 15 in Newton this evening.

Police Chief Randy Patrick said a black Chevrolet Camaro pulled into the parking lot of Hardee's and open fire at the business. He said there were at least 20 rounds fired at the parking lot.
