Softball: Lake Lady Hornets Eliminated from Playoffs

After cruising through the first two rounds of the Class 2A playoffs, the Lake Lady Hornets hit a wall in the form of the Pisgah Lady Dragons.

Pisgah dominated the series, beating Lake 11-1 on Thursday and 11-4 on Saturday to sweep the series.

Lake finishes with a 19-10 record on the season.

Baseball: NCA Generals Advance to South 3A Semifinals

One fan of the Newton County Academy baseball team referred to the Generals as the “Cardiac kids.”

The Generals opened their series with Prentiss Christian last week by scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh with two outs and walking off the game on a passed ball to take a 4-3 win.

JUCO Baseball: East Central Advances to Region 23 Tournament

It wasn’t easy but top-ranked East Central Community College is advancing to the Region 23 tournament this week.

The Warriors beat Northeast Mississippi Community College 6-4 on Saturday but dropped a tight 3-2 decision on Sunday.

Softball: Union Advances to Class 2A North State Finals

After an 8-4 win over Hamilton in the first game of the Class 2A North Series, Union just needed one win on Saturday.

And after a two-hour wait just north of Starkville after a bus breakdown, Union went scoreless for 6 2/3 innings in game 2 of the series.
