Lake at Scott Central: Hornets fall to Scott Central 35-28, hosts Mize in playoff

In a battle of in-county rivals for a district championship, it was Scott Central that got the best of Lake.

The Rebels overcame a fourth-quarter deficit and took a 35-28 win over the Hornets to claim the 5-2A championship.

Lake falls to 6-4 on the season and will host Mize in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs.

Newton County at Southeast Lauderdale: Cougars defeat Tigers, host Mendenhall Friday

After falling to Leake County for the district championship, Newton County coach Bobby Bass said his team had a bad taste in its mouth.

The Cougars got it out on Thursday night as they shut out Southeast Lauderdale 49-0.

Football: Tigers fall to the Rebels 32-8, face Heidelberg Friday in 2A playoffs

The Newton Tigers saw their regular season come to an end on Thursday night.

The Tigers fell 32-8 to Richton and finished the regular season with a 2-8 record.

They will face 2A favorite Heidelberg on Friday in the first round of the playoffs.

Union High School’s Yellowjackets charge onto the field with energy and pride as cheerleaders rally the crowd behind them. The Jackets recently wrapped up an undefeated regular season and are headed to the first round of playoffs Friday night continuing their road to Starkville and a shot at championship glory.
