Basketball: Lady Cougars Pick Up Two Division Wins, Boys Split

The Newton County girls basketball team picked up two big division wins this week.

The Lady Cougars beat Leake Central 48-16 and then beat Northeast Lauderdale 44-38.

The Cougars split their two games, beating Leake Central 67-60 while losing 49-42 to Northeast Lauderdale.

Basketball: Sebastopol Teams Struggle in Division Play, Eye Redemption

Sebastopol played a pair of division games last week but only came away with one win in four contests

The Sebastopol boys took a 52-42 win over Union but then dropped a 63-54 decision to Philadelphia.

The Lady Bobcats dropped both contests, falling 48-46 to Philadelphia and 40-31 to Union.

Any time Newton County and West Lauderdale get together to play a sporting event, it’s going to be competitive.

Newton County swept a pair of Division 4-4A games from their rivals from Collinsville. The Lady Cougars rallied and took a 51-34 win over the Lady Knights while the Cougars also rallied in the fourth to take a 64-53 victory.

Basketball: Union Girls Take Rivalry Win, Boys Struggle in Division Play

The Union girls grabbed the only win of the week as they took a big division victory over rival Sebastopol.

The Lady Yellowjackets built an early lead and took a 40-31 win over the Lady Bobcats. They also fell 59-37 to Choctaw County.
