The Newton County tennis team got in plenty of action this week but dropped two out of three matches.
Newton County lost 5-2 to Northwest Rankin on Thursday before traveling to Jones County on Saturday where they split a pair of matches, beating Brookhaven 4-3 and losing to Stone County 4-3.
Newton County, now 3-2 on the season, has a full week of matches scheduled as they will travel to Brandon on Monday and host Jackson Academy on Tuesday. On Friday, Newton County will play at Lafayette County and then at Oxford on Saturday.
Northwest Rankin 5, County 2
In singles, Chris Chertkow lost 6-0, 6-0 on the boys side while Brenah Flint lost 6-0, 6-0 on the girls side.
In boys doubles, Parker Chaney and Tate Baucum won 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot while Donald Blake and Cade Cooley lost 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot.
In girls doubles, Emily Stewart and Josie Tullos lost 3-6, 6-3, 10-7 in a third-set tiebreaker at the No. 1 spot while Ava Espey and Marilyn Tullos won 6-3, 7-6(3) at the No. 2 spot.
In mixed doubles, Lee Hill and Maggie Bounds lost 6-7(1), 6-3, 10-2.
County 4, Brookhaven 3
In singles, Cade Cooley lost 6-4, 6-0 on the boys side while Brenah Flint lost 7-5, 6-0 on the girls side.
