We take great joy in answering this important question from one of our youngest readers, Merci, and are honored by her trust in us to tell the truth.
Dear Santa, Are you real? Love, Merci Kate
Merci, your little friends may say there is no Santa Claus, but they are wrong. They have been influenced by a world that often doubts what it cannot see. They think that something must be visible to be real, but their understanding is limited by their young imaginations.
All minds, Merci, whether they belong to children or adults, are small compared to the vastness of the universe. In this incredible world, we are like tiny grains of sand, unable to fully comprehend the wonders around us.
Yes, Merci, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as surely as love, generosity, and kindness exist, and these are the things that bring the most beauty and joy to our lives.
Imagine how dreary the world would be without Santa Claus! It would be as bleak as a world without the magic of childhood. Without him, there would be no childlike wonder, no poetry, no dreams to make life’s challenges bearable. We would have nothing to enjoy except what we can see and touch. The light that fills the hearts of children—and reminds us of the best parts of life—would be snuffed out.
Not believe in Santa Claus? You might as well not believe in fairies! You could ask your parents to set up cameras on Christmas Eve to catch Santa in action, but even if they didn’t see him, what would that prove?
Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that does not mean he isn’t real. The most important and enduring things in life are those we cannot see. Have you ever seen the wind? Of course not, but you can feel it and see its effects all around you.
You can tear apart a gift to see what’s inside, but there is a curtain separating the seen from the unseen, which no one—no matter how strong or clever—can tear down. It is only faith, imagination, and wonder that allow us to peek through and understand the beauty beyond it.
Is Santa Claus real? Oh, Merci, there is nothing more real and enduring in this world than him.
Thank God he lives, and he will live forever. 1,000 years from now—no, 10,000 years from now—Santa will still be bringing joy to children and reminding us all of the magic and wonder that make life so precious.
Merry Christmas, Merci!
