The Newton Municipal School District will now be looking for coaches for both basketball teams.
Girls coach Patricia Wilson recently announced her retirement while boys coach Crandal Porter announced he was leaving to go to Kemper County.
Porter was introduced as the new boys coach at Kemper in a Monday press conference.
Porter said that Newton will always be a special place to him where he won championships with both the girls and boys teams.

“I have coached against Kemper County for years and know what kind of athletes they have,” Porter said. “I’m looking forward to coaching here. It’s obvious that they are committed to winning. I will always cherish my time in Newton and the relationships that I’ve made with the kids through the years. But it was time to move on. I hope Kemper is my last stop.”
Newton is also losing its girls basketball coach as well as Wilson is retiring after taking the Lady Tigers back to the Big House where they lost 46-36 to East Union the semifinals. The Lady Tigers had back-to-back 20-win seasons under Wilson.
“My experience here at Newton is nothing less than what I expected,” Wilson said. “I came here to be a part of a program that fosters a tradition of winning. Both seasons, we compiled 20 wins and a trip to the state tournament. The love for basketball here in Newton runs deep. I would like to thank the staff, administrators, parents, and community of NMSD for allowing me to be apart of this family. I am so appreciative to have been a part of such a supportive team. I have created relationships that will last a lifetime For that, I am truly grated and will always support the Newton Tigers and the overall success of the Newton Municipal School District.”
