The Newton track teams recently competed in the Big Blue Invitational at Meridian High School and both teams finished second.
Erin Ware and De’Traun Brown were named MVP for Newton.
On the girls side, Newton won eight first-places and was led by Erin Ware who won the triple jump, the 100-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles. Anniston Adkins won the shot put and the discus. Taylin Robinson won the 100-meter dash while Akyrin Berry won the 400-meter dash. Dayshia Irby also won the high jump.
Also for Newton, Jasmyn Jenkins finished second in the high jump while Jade Rendleman was second in the discus and Eunice Taylor was second in the long jump. The girls 4x100 relay team of Jordyn Bolar, Keara Gallaspy, Alexandra Jones and Eunice Taylor was second. The 4x800-meter team of Natalie Chapman, Kaylee Gallaspy, Kelsey Gallaspy and Blair Tillman also finished second.
The Newton team of Jordyn Bolar, Keara Gallaspy, Dayshia Irby and Euniya Taylor were third while the 4x400-meter team of Akyrin Berry, Kaylee Gallaspy, Jasmyn Jenkins and Jeniah Walker were also third.
On the boys side, the Tigers won four events with De’Traun Brown won the triple jump, 110-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles while Keilanzae Nichols won the long jump.
The Tigers had four second-place finishes as De’Traun Brown was second in the high jump and Keilanzae Nichols was second in the triple jump. Dylan Chapman was second in the 400-meter dash and Hayden Adkins was second in the 3,200-meter run.
The 4x100-meter team of Sedrick Harris, Briceton Johnson, Victor Rush and Tazayvion Townsend finished second while Harris, Johnson, Nichols and Victor Rush was second in the 4x200-meter dash. The 4x400-meter dash team of Daylan Chapman, Demari McCune, Jaylon Norman and Salathan Rush were second while the 4x800-meter team of Rayshun Bunkley, McCune, Norman and Rush were also second.
Also, Hayden Adkins was third in the 1,600-meter run while Darrius Rush was third in the 3,200-meter dash. Sedrick Harris was third in the 100-meter dash while Donnie Bramlet was third in the triple jump and Rayshun Bunkley was third in the long jump.
