The Yellowjackets concluded the first week of fall practice with a practice/scrimmage on Friday night and Saturday morning.
“I thought the first week went real well,” coach Brad Breland said. “The attitude and effort was there. We just have to keep it up and keep on getting better. There are still a lot of stuff we have to get better at. The main thing is the attitude was good and we were pleased with that.”
Breland said the midnight practice was very evenly matched.
“The offense scored once but there are some things we have to clean up as well,” Breland said. “We shot ourselves in the foot with a bunch of penalties. We had some false starts and bad snaps that we have to clean up. But we played with a bunch of effort and I was pleased with that.”
The Yellowjackets will now get ready to play a half against Leake Central on Friday at Newton County starting at 5 p.m.
“This week will mainly be about Union,” Breland said. “We will keep workin on our physicality and keep installing some new things and try to get for the first game against Choctaw Central. We will keep on working on fundamentals. We still have a lot of work to do on us.”
The Yellowjackets will kick off the regular season next Friday as they travel to Choctaw Central on Aug. 23.
