It was a rough end to the season for the Union basketball teams this week, losing three out of four contests.
The Lady Yellowjackets grabbed the only win of the week with a 50-45 win over Philadelphia. They finished the regular season with a 52-41 loss to Newton.
The Yellowjackets lost both games they played last week as they fell 39-37 to Philadelphia and 56-42 to Newton.
The Lady Yellowjackets finish the regular season with a 21-6 record and the No. 2 seed in this week’s Division 6-2A Tournament being played at Newton. Union will take on No. 3 seed Scott Central on Thursday at 7 p.m.
The Yellowjackets finish the regular season with a 20-6 record and will be the No. 3 seed in this week’s district tournament. They will take on host Newton on Thursday in an 8:30 p.m. game.
Philadelphia boys 39, Union 37
The Tornadoes built and early lead and held on for a two-point win over the Yellowjackets on Tuesday.
Philly jumped out to a 16-6 lead in the first period but Union outscored the Tornadoes 13-4 to cut the lead to 20-19 at the half. Philly took the third period 10-9 and each team scored nine points in the fourth for the final margin.
Jordan Hill led Philadelphia with 14 points while Ira Chambers had seven points.
Jada Russell led Union with 12 points while J.T. Vance had nine points.
Union girls 50, Philadelphia 45
The Lady Yellowjackets took a hard-fought five-point win over the Lady Tornadoes on Tuesday night.
Each team scored nine points in the first period and Union outscored Philly 13-10 in the second to take a 22-19 lead at the half. Each team scored 10 points in the third and Union took the fourth period 18-16 in the fourth for the final margin.
Kamyia Russell and Keirra Russell each had 18 points apiece for Union.
