The Union Yellowjackets won three games last week as they improved to 6-1 on the season.
The Yellowjackets swept a pair of games from Bay Springs, winning 16-4 on Tuesday and 8-5 on Friday. Union ended the week with a 6-0 shutout win over Raleigh on Saturday.
Union, now 6-1 on the season will take on Newton County Academy on Monday in the Stringer Tournament before playing in the Forest Tournament on Tuesday. The Yellowjackets will play Leake Central and Noxapater on Tuesday in the Forest Tournament.
Union 16, Bay Springs 4
The Yellowjackets broke open a close game with 11 runs in the last two innings to take a 12-run, six-inning victory over the Bulldogs on Tuesday.
Union scored five runs in the first inning and Bay Springs answered with four in the second to pull within 5-4. The score stayed there until the fifth when Union scored seven runs and finished the game off with four in the sixth.
Union outhit Bay Springs 14-4 in the contest. Peyton Posey was 2-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBIs. Kobe Casey was 2-for-3 with two walks and three runs scored. Kolton Cockerham was 2-for-3 with two walks. Preston Germany was 2-for-5. Trevor Patchin was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. Henry Thornton and Jacob Moore each had doubles. Jaylon Buckley drove four runs.
Germany pitched the first two innings and gave up four runs on three hits. walking three. J.T. Vance pitched the last four innings, giving up just one hit and walking two. striking out five to pick up the win in just 46 pitches.
Union 8, Bay Springs 5
The Yellowjackets survived a five-error performance and held on to take a three-run win over the Bulldogs on Friday.
Union scored single runs in the first four innings and led 4-2 before scoring three in the fifth and one in the sixth. Bay Springs scored one in the sixth and two in the seventh for the final.
Union had five hits in the contest with no multiple hitters. Kobe Casey singled, walked twice and scored twice. Jaylon Buckley walked twice, stole two bases scored a run. Peyton Posey and Henry Thornton each singled and had an RBI. J.T. Vance singled and scored a run.
Trevor Patchin started, pitched three innings, gave up two runs on three hits and three walks and struck out five. Vance pitched the next 3 2/3 innings and gave up three runs on three hits and four walks while striking out four. Buckley came in and got the last out.
Union 6, Raleigh 0
The Yellowjackets got a complete-game three-hitter from Henry Thornton to take a shutout win over the Lions on Saturday.
Union scored three runs in the third, two in the fifth and one in the sixth to take the win.
Union outhit Raleigh 11-3 in the contest. Jaylon Buckley was 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and two runs scored. Rope Lovern was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Kobe Casey was 2-for-4 with two stolen bases. Judd Young also had a two-run home run for the Yellowjackets.
Thornton was dominant and efficient on the mound, pitching seven complete innings in just 90 pitches. He gave up three hits, walked just one and struck out 12.
