The Union baseball team kicked off the 2020 season with a pair of games this past Saturday.
The Yellowjackets opened with a 3-1 win over Choctaw Central before falling 9-4 to Enterprise to end the day.
Union returned to action this week with Forest on Tuesday. On Friday, the Yellowjackets will play at Newton County before hosting Morton on Saturday in a 1 p.m. contest.
Union 3, Choctaw Central 1
The Yellowjackets got two solid pitching performances and took a two-run win over the Warriors to open the season on Saturday.
Choctaw scored one run in the first inning while Union scored one in the fifth and two in the sixth to take the win.
Union outhit Choctaw 6-5 in the contest. Peyton Posey and Kolton Cockerham each went 2-for-3 in the contest. Jacob Moore had a double, and Judd Young also singled. Gavin Heath, Brandon Felton and Cockerham each scored runs for Union.
Trevor Patchin got the start and give up four hits in three innings while walking three and striking out three. Jaylon Buckley pitched the final four innings and gave up one hit while striking out six.
Enterprise 9, Union 4
The Bulldogs scored five runs in the top of the seventh to take a win over the Yellowjackets in the second game of the day on Saturday.
Union scored two runs in the first and third innings while Enterprise scored four in the third and five in the seventh.
Union outhit Enterprise 7-4 in the contest, but the Yellowjackets issued seven walks. J.T. Vance was 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs to lead Union. Jaylon Buckley was 2-for-4. Rope Lovern singled and drove in two runs. Trevor Patchin singled and scored a run.
Buckley started in the contest and pitched three innings, giving up four runs on three hits while striking out three. Henry Thornton pitched the last four innings and gave up five unearned runs on one hit and six walks while striking out four.
