It was a rough week for the Union basketball teams as both squads lost both games.
The Union girls lost 39-16 to Southeast Lauderdale and 44-8 to Quitman. The Union boys lost 36-26 to Southeast and 63-21 to Quitman.
Union will play at Pisgah in its only action this week. They will finish the regular season next week as they host St. Andrew’s on Tuesday and will play at Southeast Lauderdale on Friday.
SE Lauderdale girls 39, Union 16
The Lady Tigers dominated early and took a 23-point win over the Lady Yellowjackets.
Southeast outscored Union 14-2 in the first and 15-2 in the second to lead 29-4 at the half. Southeast took the third period 8-6 while Union outscored the Lady Tigers 6-2 in the fourth.
Jasmine Pickens and Zakiya Hunter each had four points apiece.
SE Lauderdale boys 36, Union 26
The Tigers pulled away in the second half to take a 10-point win over the Yellowjackets.
Each team scored eight points in the first period while Quitman outscored Union 8-7 in the second to lead 16-15 at the half. Southeast then outscored Union 8-2 in the second and 12-9 in the fourth to take the win.
Koby Hutchins led Union with eight points while Chanze Harmon had seven points.
Quitman girls 44, Union 8
The Lady Yellowjackets struggled from the field as they dropped a 36-point contest to the Lady Panthers.
Quitman outscored Union 14-0 in the first and 9-0 in the second to lead 23-0 at the half. Quitman then outscored Union 15-2 in the third while each team scored six points in the fourth.
Jasmine Pickens led Union with four points.
Quitman boys 63, Union 21
The Panthers took control early and cruised to a 42-point win.
Quitman jumped out to a 32-7 lead in the first period and then outscored Union 17-2 to lead 49-9 at the half. Union took the third period 6-1 while Quitman finished by outscoring the Yellowjackets 13-6 in the fourth to take the win.
Tanner Watkins led Union with 13 points while Riddick Killen had six points.
