This week, many students will return to school, and in the coming weeks, college students will also return to school. I am going to try to give you a couple of tips that might help you and your family out as the new year gets rolling.
If you have a little one who is nervous about school, remind him or her that the other kids and teachers are nervous too. Try to point out fun aspects of school. This might help your child become less nervous about school starting.
Make sure your children are trying to get off of their summer sleep schedule. This was always super hard for me to do, especially when I was in middle school and early high school, so make sure the phones get turned off and sleep actually happens.
If you have a younger child, make sure they know how they are getting to and from school. Also, if you have a new teen driver, remind them how important it is to pay attention to things while driving.
Another important thing is to make sure your kids are kind people. Also, make sure your child feels comfortable enough to speak up if someone is bullying them. Make sure they also know to tell a trusted adult if they see someone else being bullied.
Another good habit to build is studying and homework. Yes, yes, I know that everyone thinks sports practices and things like that trump homework, but I can tell you that those grades will be very helpful one day.
Seniors, I have some advice specific to you. Please take everything in. Do not get caught up in small school drama and gossip. It is not worth it. Enjoy the time you have left with your friends.
Lastly, college students, I have no idea what to expect, and I am going to be right there with you. For a few of my friends and me, we will be Starkville bound soon! But, as always, go, Jackets, go!
