We all know it’s extremely hot outside. If we’re hot, our dogs are hot too. Just imagine being out in the Mississippi July heat with a fur coat. Yikes! Here are some tips on how to keep your furry friends cool during this heat.
If your dogs like to sunbathe, an elevated bed can be a great option. Elevated beds keep your dogs off the hot ground and allow cool air to flow underneath them. Cooling mats are also excellent for preventing your pet from overheating.
If you enjoy taking your dogs on walks, consider researching shoes for your dog. It might sound silly, but if your bare feet can’t handle the hot concrete, neither can their toe pads. You can also get a kiddie pool for your dogs. I have one for my outside dogs, and they love it. Just make sure to change the water frequently.
Keep collapsible water bowls with you when you go on trips or walks. Dogs need to drink water too. Ensure they get plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated.
Go on walks during cooler parts of the day, either later in the afternoon or in the morning, and give them breaks while playing or walking outside. Offer frozen treats; there are many pet-friendly options available. Research before giving them any treats to ensure they are safe.
If your dogs have long hair, keep it well-groomed during the hot months. Lastly, if it’s really hot outside, let them in the house. You can change your sheets and sweep later.
