Union residents marched through town carrying banners and signs Saturday in a Black Lives Matter demonstration to bring awareness to racial inequality throughout the state and nation.
Demonstrators gathered at town square and traveled down Main Street, Jackson Street and Park Street, stopping to kneel, remembers and pray at Union High School.
Taylor Townsend Harrison, who attended Saturday’s march, said she was humbled to take part in something bigger than herself.
“I am proud to have participated in just a small glimpse into such a large united front,” she said. Having seen the quote ‘I know I’ll never understand, but I will stand with you,’ I knew it was imperative to be there for my brothers and sisters in Christ and to show my love and support for them.”
Harrison said this was her first demonstration, but it would not be her last.
“I’d do it again in a heartbeat and look forward to another peaceful demonstration and parade to show my belief that black lives matter,” she said.
