Shopaholics and bargain hunters alike will want to mark their calendars for Friday as the annual Highway 15 Yard Sale kicks off a weekend of yard sales, flea markets and vendors stretching from Union to Newton.
At the Highway 15 Flea Market, the annual Yard Sale kicks off a day early with vendors open for business at 7 a.m. Thursday.
Michelle Herrington, an organizer for the event, said over 25 vendors will be featured at the Flea Market, offering everything from breakfast food to patio furniture.
“It’s going to be a variety,” she said.
Herrington said vendors will be set up both inside and in the parking lot, with both the Flea Market’s permanent vendors and guest vendors participating in the sale.
“We have some come set up with just household items,” she said. “Some of them come every year.”
Of course, Herrington said, no event would be complete without a food vendor, and the Flea Market will be no exception. Food vendors will be on hand serving breakfast and lunch, as well snow cones, pork skins and other snacks.
In Newton, shoppers will be able to head over to The Place on Main Street, where vendors will be set up offering flea market and yard sale items.
Calvin Irwin, owner of The Place on Main Street, said this year he decided to open up his shop to vendors to offer an indoor shopping space in the event of rain.
“We went to the flea market last year and got rained on Friday and Saturday,” he said.
Irwin said at least four vendors will be set up from noon to 5 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday for residents to stop by and browse their selections.
For those looking to sell items, Saturday will also bring the Decatur Wide Yard Sale, which is sponsored by the Decatur Chamber of Commerce.
Mark Buntyn, president of the Decatur Chamber of Commerce, said the area around Newton County Courthouse in downtown Decatur will be set up for residents to bring their items to sell. There will be no cost to participate in the yard sale, he said.
For more information about the yard sale, Buntyn said residents can contact Decatur Town Hall.
