A Union woman is behind bars after she allegedly used a stolen credit card to make several purchases at local businesses.
Alethia Hitt, 40, was arrested Tuesday, February 18, by Union Police officers and charged with stolen credit card fraud.
Police Chief Billy Pat Walker said Hitt allegedly used the card at several businesses in Union and the surrounding county.
“She obtained a credit card and used it at several places in Union and in the county,” he said. “The owner of the credit card thinks she dropped it at Dollar General.”
Walker said officers have video evidence of Hitt using the stolen card in town and are working with Newton County law enforcement to gather more information on purchases made in the county.
“We’re working with the county to get charges drawn up,” he said. “She is charged with stolen card fraud.”
UPD is still investigating the incident, Walker said, and its possible more arrests may be made. Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Union Police Department at 601-774-9211.
