County Line and New Ireland water association customers may see their water bills be a bit higher starting July 1.
In a Board of Aldermen meeting May 2, City of Union mayor Wayne Welch told the board the Mississippi Public Service Commission had signed off on the city’s plan to raise rates for the two associations.
“You remember back in 2017, we went up $3 on city and $3 on county,” he said. “Well, after the auditor came by, the public service commission got us.”
After more than three years, the Public Service Commission has given the board permission to implement the $3 raise on County Line and New Ireland water associations. The rates will go up from $25 to $28 for the first 2,000 gallons, with an additional $5 charge per 1,000 gallons after that. Deposits and new connections will cost $300, and there will be a $35 fee for reconnections.
Welch said this is not a new increase. The rates have not changed from the 2017 rates, but the city is just now able to implement them.
The rate increase is set to go into effect July 1, 2020.
