The Union Public School district will receive a total of $700,000 conduct a Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics program.
Union School Superintendent Tyler Hansford said the school district will receive $250,000 for the next two years and $200,000 the following year to help launch the program in the district.
The district will pay the teachers for the program $30 per hour and bus drivers $20 per route.
In other business, the school district revised its teacher salary scale, along with policy updates to the school board organization and business management.
The board approved asset disposals, the termination of a 16th Section lease and advertisement for a new hunting and fishing lease on the 16th Section property.
Under personnel, it was announced that Mae Gibson will retire December 31 after 35 years. Elementary staff members Sandy Walters and Amy Smith both submitted resignations.
Meagan Hall was hired as an elementary assistant teacher. A revised substitute teacher list and an long-term math substitute teacher were approved.
Transfers and loans for FY 2019 and 2020 approved, along with allocations for FY 2019 and 2020. The claims docket and the financial report were both approved.
The consent agenda including additional fundraising requests, overnight field trips, teacher attendance report, student attendance report, school nurse report, collaborative partnership agreement and transition plan with the Friends of Children of Mississippi and the CACFP permanent agreement were approved.
