The Union Yellowjackets had little trouble in a doubleheader sweep of Newton on Tuesday.
The Jackets allowed just one hit in the doubleheader, winning 15-0 and 17-2.
Saturday’s game with Choctaw Central was called due to rain.
“It was good to get two district wins on Tuesday,” Union coach Dustin Hamrick said. “We did what we needed to do. The toughest of the district schedule is coming up with Philadelphia and Lake. Our goal is to win it so here's our shot the next two weeks. The Choctaw Central game Saturday was rained out in the fourth so that is a suspended game. We were down 6-3 and had a lot of momentum in the top of the fourth so we were disappointed not to be able to finish that game. Looking for good things the next couple of weeks.”
Union, now 8-5 on the season, will face Philadelphia in a key 4-2A series this week. The Jackets will travel to Philadelphia on Monday and host the Tornadoes on Friday. On Saturday, Union will travel to Neshoba Central for a 1 p.m. contest.
