The Newton County Lady Cougars took a big Class 4A win last week over rival West Lauderdale.
The Lady Cougars won 3-2 in the contest. County won the first two set, winning 25-21 and 26-24. But West took the next two sets, losing 25-21 and 25-17 to even the match. County then took the fifth-set tiebreaker 15-11 to take the win
“I’m proud of the way the girls fought the entire match,” coach Matthew Beasley said. “We have had some really young girls step up and play in some tough important games. It says a lot about our team that we can plug girls in and the team finds ways to support one another. It makes a coach proud to see the team come together. It’s always good to be able to win on the road especially in our district. We want to thank our fans, students, and parents for traveling and supporting the team. We hope to see everyone continue to come out and support us throughout the rest of district and when the playoffs get started.”
Newton County improves to 21-3-1 on the season and will host West Lauderdale on Tuesday and will play at Northeast Lauderdale on Thursday.
