Katie Wyatt, from Decatur, won the $5,000.00 scholarship and was the overall winner at the Mississippi Soil and Water Conversation Youth Camp. Out of a total of 17 participants in the years camp, Wyatt was awarded for being the camper who demonstrated the greatest interest and aptitude for natural resources. The scholarship is provided by the Mississippi Association of Conservation Districts Endowment Fund and can be used at any MS Institute of Higher Learning.
The Conservation Youth Camp is held every year in Raymond, MS and is offered to high school students entering grades 10,11,12, or who are recent graduates. Conservation Youth Camp is hosted by MS Soil and Water Conservation Commission (MSWCC) and Mississippi Association of Conservation Districts (MACD). Newton County Soil and Water Conservation District sponsors 2 students to attend the camp each year.
