I have failed the students and parents of the Newton Municipal School District.

Any apologies I can offer to you, especially to Tylin Parker, his family and everyone affected by Thursday’s shooting on the Newton Elementary School campus, are not enough to undo what has happened.

Our Opinion: Parents, community deserve answers

While Thursday may have been the first time a gun has been discharged on a Newton Municipal School District campus since 2013, it is not the first time a gun has been brought on campus since then. You don’t have to look any further than April 2021, when a Newton Elementary student brought a gun on campus.
