The new combined Dollar Tree/Family Dollar stores in Decatur and Newton will be opening soon.
Corey Smith, the developer for the project with Executive Holdings LLC, said the Decatur store is slated to open Thursday, while the Newton store will be open on Sept. 1. And they are currently hiring.
“People interested in employment opportunities can go to www.familydollar.com and click on careers to search job openings at either of the locations,” Smith said.
Announced earlier this year, Family Dollar has introduced its “H2” model stores that are being rolled out across the country. The Decatur and Newton stores are among some of the first combined stores to be built from the ground up.
According to a company press release, the combination store format combines the Dollar Tree and Family Dollar brands under one roof.
“It is designed to serve small towns and rural communities with populations of 3,000 to 4,000 — markets where the company would traditionally not open a Dollar Tree store alone,” the release stated.
“We are extremely pleased with our customers’ response to the new combination store concept,” said Michael Witynski, president and CEO of Family Dollar, in a press release. “We want formats that leverage the best of the Dollar Tree and Family Dollar brands to serve customers in all types of geographic markets. We believe we can continue to change, evolve and improve.”
Family Dollar currently operates a store in Union. It is unclear when that store would be converted to the new format.
Dollar Tree operated 15,685 stores across 48 states and five Canadian provinces as of January 30, 2021. Stores operate under the brands of Dollar Tree, Family Dollar and Dollar Tree Canada.
