Four men connected with a May 22 Cartersville, Ga., shooting are awaiting extradition from the Newton County Jail after they were caught on I-20 here.
Newton County Sheriff Joedy Pennington said deputies discovered that the suspects were wanted in connection after they made a traffic stop in Newton County.
“During the traffic stop, the deputies learned that the four Hispanic males in the vehicle were wanted fugitives out of Georgia for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and reckless conduct,” Pennington said. “The charges stemmed from a shooting incident the night before that took place in Cartersville, Ga.”
Deputies with the Newton County Criminal Interdiction Unit conducted a traffic stop on a gray Volkswagen for careless driving and speeding at 11:35 p.m. May 23 near 112 mile marker.
Arrested were Nestor Manuel Puente Jr., 20, of Eagle Pass, Texas; Juan Diego Fuentes, 18, of Texas; MIsgael Guerraro, 19, of Austin, Texas; and Yahir Guerrero, 18, of Eagle Pass, Texas.
Pennington said three rifles were also located in the vehicle, one of which was allegedly used in the shooting.
