WEEK 3/5 PREVIEW: Showdown of Union, Newton County highlights week

Two undefeated football teams will get tested this week without leaving Newton County.

Union will make the short trip to Decatur on Friday to take on Newton County in a contest that has turned into a hotly contested game.

The Cougars are 2-0 on the season with a 32-13 win over Morton and a 39-6 win over Southeast Lauderdale.

Mayers powers Lake to big win at home

Lake football coach Tate Hanna has said all along that Cornelius Mayers will likely be the fastest player on the field in most games.

That was certainly the case on Friday night.

The junior running back rushed for 243 yards and three touchdowns as he led the Hornets to a 34-20 over visiting Bogue Chitto.
