The Newton Chamber of Commerce hosted a viewing party premiere on Thursday for a new short video to help promote historic sites in Newton.
The video titled “Historic Tour of Newton, Mississippi” is a three-minute documentary style video. A group of community and business leaders watched the premiere of the video at the Historic Depot.
The tourism video, which is available on the chamber’s website along with other social media outlets, spotlights each historic marker around the city and county of Newton, Mississippi
Attendees received a welcome from Sen. Terry C. Burton, who also narrated the video.
“This video has been a project we have worked very hard on to show everyone the rich history that our great small town has to offer,” said Emily Pugh, Newton Chamber of Commerce Director. “We felt it was appropriate to premiere the video leading into Memorial Day weekend since the video also features our Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery and the Persian Gulf War Memorial.”
Pugh said the goal is for citizens across the nation to experience what Newton has to offer. Ultimately the hope is that it will encourage travelers from all over to stop by and experience the city of Newton.
