The Friends of Central Mississippi Residential Center are hoping Friday the 13th will be a lucky day to help raise money to support the facility’s clients and raise awareness of mental health issues in the community.
Donna Creekmore, director of CMRC and an ex-officio board member of the friends organization, said this is a fundraiser to help support clients who live on campus. The center’s mission to help provide mental health services to help them transition into a community setting.
“We are looking forward to this new opportunity to engage with our community while providing support for our clients on campus,” Creekmore said. “This is not just a fundraiser for our Friends of CMRC organization, but it also gives us a chance to raise awareness of mental health in our community.”
The breakfast will be from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 13 at the National Guard Armory in Newton. Tickets are $5 per plate and includes a stack of three pancakes, two sausage patties, grits and a choice of beverage. Coffee is only available for those dining in, but take out plates will have the option to include water or juice.
However, delivery of 10 plates or more is also available within a roughly 5-mile radius of Newton, which includes Decatur and Hickory. Only juice and water are available for delivery orders.
The organization was encouraging those who would like to place orders of 10 or more and schedule pickup or delivery to call by March 4.
Frankie Johnson, public relations spokesman for the Friends of CMRC, also suggested that this could be a good time for managers and owners to show employee appreciation.
“We have already had some managers purchase tickets for their staffs,” Johnson said. “This would be a great opportunity to show appreciation to your employees by purchasing them breakfast plates. And it will benefit a good cause in our community.”
Johnson said all proceeds go directly to the Friends of CMRC organization, which will help support clients on the CMRC campus. This would go toward additional needs that are not provided by state funding.
