The Decatur Chamber of Commerce will be celebrating another successful year this weekend, as it will host its annual chamber banquet Saturday night at the East Central Community College cafeteria.
Mark Buntyn, president of the Decatur Chamber of Commerce, said they have had another successful year in 2018, and they will be recognizing their members’ efforts throughout the year.
“The events we support are vital to this community,” Buntyn said. “We support the annual Christmas parade, Treat Street and town-wide yard sale, where we set up signs and offer local residents to come into town and set up in downtown. We also sponsor the Bug + Program that recognizes students who are well behaved and work hard in school at Newton County Elementary and Newton County Academy. If that can even inspire one student to go on and be successful, then it’s been worth it to our community.”
Buntyn said they will be recognizing the grand marshal of the parade along with the chamber’s Citizen of the Year. In addition to that, they will also have the chambers main fundraising event, the banquet’s silent auction, which features gifts that have been donated from many local businesses.
“This is probably one of very few fundraisers throughout the year,” Buntyn said. “It’s a great opportunity for people in the community to come out and bid on a lot of great prizes. Many of them you can purchase at a lower price than what you could normally purchase for.”
Buntyn said the banquet is open to both chamber members and non-members. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. in the ECCC Gold Room adjacent to the cafeteria with the silent auction followed by the banquet at 6 p.m. in the main cafeteria. Tickets are $22 per person and are available at Decatur Town Hall.
