Newton resident Darron Lashaun Thames was found guilty in Newton County Circuit Court today on charges of accessory after the fact to murder for his part in a March 2017 murder.
Ten people were arrested in the days following a shooting at 113 Tillman St. that claimed the life of 21-year-old Jamarcus Townsend.
Thames, along with Jordan D’Mark Myers, Devon Dequion Thompson, Robert Shadon Bender, Jessica Jean Powers and Ashton Myota Thompson, was charged with concealing evidence and helping alleged shooters Lyndale Jones, Richard Lofton and Robbie Dontay Chapman avoid arrest.
Thames, Bender and Devon Thompson allegedly helped clean the vehicle used in the shooting and dispose of evidence, while Ashton Thompson and Jessica Powers helped the alleged shooters flee the county.
After two days of deliberation, a Newton County jury found Thames guilty of accessory after the fact to murder. The jury found him not guilty on the charge of conspiracy to commit murder.
