Candidates for Newton County office have continued to qualify over the past few weeks, with more names joining the list of those running in the 2019. The most contested races are still that of County Supervisor for District 5, Justice Court Judge District 2, which was previously filled by Mark McDonald before his retirement Dec. 31, and to see who will succeed Jackie Knight as Newton County Sheriff. However, newly qualified challengers for Constable District 1, Tax Assessor and several County Supervisor positions have thrown their hats into the ring as well.

Candidates have until March 1 to fill out the qualifying forms at the Circuit Clerk’s Office. Primary elections will be held Aug. 6, with a potential runoff set for Aug. 27. The general election for all county and state offices will be Nov. 5
