The Town of Decatur is in good financial status after an annual audit of the town’s finances showed no major discrepancies in the books.
In a special called Board of Aldermen meeting Thursday, City Clerk Brenda Harper told the board the auditor had finished his report and had already sent a copy to the state for review.
“He did not have any issues that I could find,” she said.
And, Harper said, the town is on a good financial track heading into the new year as well. She said the first quarter of Fiscal Year 2019 ended with all departments on track to be within budget. In October, there was a slight bump with payroll as it had three pay periods instead of the usual two. However, she said that corrected itself in November.
Additionally, Harper said, the board had received two bids for depository services, bank accounts for the Town of Decatur to deposit funds into.
Great Southern Bank’s bid offered a 0.04 percent fixed interest rate and a locked deposit box. The bid from Citizens Bank of Philadelphia offered a 2.61 percent interest rate for both checking and Money Market accounts.
The board voted to award the bid to Citizens Bank citing the higher interest rate, which would increase the return on the town’s money.
“We do use Great Southern with other accounts,” Aldermen Mark Buntyn said.
In other business, the Board of Aldermen:
● •Approved advertising for bids for upkeep of Decatur Cemetery;
● •Approved advertising for bids for 7.1-0acre parcel of land behind Newton County High School; and
● •Approved extending the town’s contract with WastePro for garbage collections for 1-year. The approval is subject to approval by WastePro before being final.
